Blockchain Lottery SmartBillions Was Hacked and It Was a Good Thing

<div class="thecontent"> On the October 4th, SmartBilions launched a hackathon involving its own platform. The goal? To identify any potential vulnerabilities before the ICO's (Initial Coin Offering) launch later in October. Recently more and more IT-developers are initiating hackathons with the intent of identifying their codes vulnerability. Anyone who feels they have the skills to hack into the system or who wish to test their hacking abilities can participate in hackathons. Hackers who are successful in hackathons can expect to be generously rewarded financially while the teams initiating the hackathon stand to improve the security and safety of their project, bringing it to the next level. The SmartBillions development team has devoted a lot of resources and effort in order to guarantee that their platform has the best security features in place for potential investors. This is the reason the team decided to hold a hackathon with a prize fund totaling $500 000 dollars. Bitcoin.org Publicly Shames SegWit2x Supporters

Bitcoin.org followed through on its threat to publicly denounce companies that support the SegWit2x hard fork and have not committed to classifying the competing blockchains as separate cryptocurrencies following the resulting chain split. Last Thursday, Bitcoin.org — an open-source repository for bitcoin resources and information and the top Google search result for "Bitcoin" — published a blog post threatening to publicly denounce 50 prominent SegWit2x supporters unless they would revoke their support for the controversial scaling proposal or agree to treat the SegWit2x blockchain as an altcoin. Today, they followed through on that threat, posting a banner site-wide banner that warns of "Bitcoin's possible incompatibility with some major services". <div class="wp-caption aligncenter" id="attachment_118878"><img display="block;" height="auto;" margin="0 auto;" max-width="100%;" src="https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/bitcoin-org-segwit2x.png" width="936"/></div> The banner links to a blog post that criticizes SegWit2x and the companies that support it. The post claims that SegWit2x supporters will shift their users to an altcoin that is incompatible with the true Bitcoin network. It warns readers to avoid storing their BTC holdings with services that support the hard fork. <blockquote>"The signatories of this agreement wrongly believe that the currency created by adopting this contentious hard fork will eventually become Bitcoin," the post states.  "Therefore storing any BTC on services such as Coinbase, Bitpay and Xapo is strongly not recommended."</blockquote> The post goes on to criticize SegWit2x proponents for pushing through a "rushed and hasty upgrade which has only minority community support and has been thoroughly rejected by users and the technical community." Consequently, Bitcoin.org pledges that it will not recommend wallets, exchanges, or other services that have "exited the Bitcoin ecosystem in a contentious manner": <blockquote>As this new altcoin is not Bitcoin, Bitcoin.org will not list wallets and services that present this altcoin as "Bitcoin" or "BTC" to their users after the hard fork. These services have exited the Bitcoin system in a contentious manner and therefore are no longer useful to our visitors.</blockquote> Finally, the post lists the names of 48 SegWit2x-supporting companies it believes bitcoin users should avoid. The list includes many prominent companies, including Coinbase, ShapeShift, BitPay, and Xapo. Several companies named in the post last week — including Chilean bitcoin exchange SurBTC — revoked their support for SegWit2x and were not called out in today's warning. Unsurprisingly, SegWit2x supporters have criticized the domain owners of Bitcoin.org for using the website to denounce the hard fork. The imposters also listed several professionals as part of their managerial and advisor teams. These individuals have since been alerted that their name and/or picture has been used by the TMT scam.  <h2>Cryptonomos Statement Regarding TMT Scam</h2> Cryptonomos, the platform that hosted the Giga Watt token sale, recently contacted Hacked.com regarding the latest developments. In an email to Jonas Borchgrevink, the Cryptonomos team had the following to say in reference to TMT: <blockquote>[W]e would like to caution people that the market for ICOs is now being targeted by scammers and fraudsters who can frequently be identified by red flag behaviors such as the one's described above."</blockquote> In addition to the verbatim copy/paste job and stealing of individual profiles, investors can expect these elaborate schemes to contain an active social media presence, sleek websites and a responsive PR team. That's exactly what TMT delivered, even going as far as contacting Jonas over the initial story we ran last week. Although it's not always easy to spot an ICO scam, running a simple Google search of the website copy or whitepaper content is a good idea. Looking up the team members on LinkedIn is another good approach. Carefully evaluating the business plan as well as escrow conditions  are also important. He added that central banks could also create their own digital currencies and then use regulation to "tilt the playing field until they win." "The long history of currency tells us that what the private sector innovates, the state eventually regulates and appropriates," he wrote.
